AOD Screening and Assessment Project Update

Posted on: Wednesday, 08 June 2011

Turning Point Alcohol & Drug Centre is conducting a study that aims to enhance AOD treatment accessibility and treatment planning by improving screening and assessment tools available to the Victorian AOD sector.

The Department of Health funded project involves the development of an evidence based framework for screening and assessment, including the pilot and evaluation of new AOD screening and assessment instruments, as well as the provision of training.  Collaboration and consultation with the AOD sector are key strategies of the project.

Development of the framework involves sector consultation, including seeking the views of AOD consumer representatives via:

 ·         A needs analysis using a statewide online survey (mid-April 2011)

·         A sector forum (May 2011)

·         AOD agency involvement in pilot evaluation (expressions of interest will be sought in June 2011)

 Project activities update

·         The response to the statewide online survey was strong with a total of 229 surveys submitted.

·         The sector forum attracted 10 service providers from a variety of services across Victoria.

·         Systematic reviews of academic and grey literature are in progress.

 Next Step

·         Expressions of interest will be sought in June/July 2011 for AOD agency involvement in a pilot evaluation
