Australian first for GPs

Turning Point and the Victorian Drug and Alcohol Clinical Advisory Service have launched an Australian-first service to enhance the screening and treatment of alcohol related health problems.

The Portal to Alcohol Counselling and Therapy (PACT) program offers assistance to general practitioners with the management of patients with alcohol related problems.

Launched late last year, it will provide GPs with readily accessible counselling for patients with problematic alcohol use, including the option of a telephone-based structured psychological intervention.

For patients requesting face-to-face services, our counsellors will refer the individual to the appropriate service and provide assistance with making the booking.

The Victorian Drug and Alcohol Clinical Advisory Service (DACAS) is a 24 hour, 7 day specialist telephone consultancy service available to all health professionals in Victoria. DACAS is operated by Turning Point Alcohol and Drug Centre with funding from the Victorian Department of Health.
