This one-day workshop aims to increase confidence for health care professionals and provide you with strategies that will help identify, engage and work more effectively with older adults experiencing AOD issues.

Given the rapidly ageing Australian population, it is important that professionals are skilled in best practice for working with older adult clients. Despite a high incidence of AOD-related problems among older adults, this population does not access traditional AOD services due to a variety of issues.

Trainer: Katherine Walsh, Peninsula Health

Katherine Walsh is the Team Leader and senior AOD clinician for the innovative “Older Wiser Lifestyles” (OWL) Program at Peninsula Health. She originates from Southern California, where she received her degree in addiction studies and brings with her 20 years of experience in the treatment of addiction disorders and program management. She has conducted research internationally into contemporary treatment approaches and programs designed specifically for the ageing population, developed an educational DVD, co-authored several publications, delivered training across Australia and is currently developing a manual regarding this unique population.
