Ready 2 Change reaches milestone

Posted on: Wednesday, 07 October 2015

Turning Point’s Ready 2 Change (R2C) program has reached its 500th referral since commencing in January 2014.

R2C is a six-week telephone intervention program that provides support and motivates long-lasting change to people with alcohol, drug or gambling issues.

This innovative model of care has been developed by Turning Point’s Telephone and Online Structured Intervention Team.

The team created the program to provide treatment to individuals who have difficulties accessing conventional services due to geography, employment, stigma and other barriers.

The milestone has been described as “truly magnificent” by Telephone and Online Services Co-ordinator Mr Jonathan Tyler.

Research suggests the program is an effective and sustainable treatment option for participants.

“Evaluation of R2C has found a substantial reduction in substance use and improvements in mood, suggesting the program provides a valuable and flexible alternative to conventional face-to-face treatments,” Mr Tyler said.

Mr Tyler extended his gratitude to the Structured Intervention Team, Inbound TOLS staff and researchers who have helped promote the program.
