An insight into drugs, alcohol and your brain will be on the agenda for April’s Talking Point Seminar.

AOD counsellor David Eckel from ISI primary Care and neuroscientist Dr Robyn Brown from Florey Neuroscience Institutes will be the guest speakers.

Up for discussion is empowering alcohol and other drug users through the development and implementation of a pamphlet titled ‘Drugs, Alcohol and your Brain’, which outlines the neuroscience of addiction.

David and Robyn will outline the process involved with creating and implementing their pamphlet as well as how to use the pamphlet in sessions with clients. The basic neuroscience concepts featured in the pamphlet will be presented and the feedback received thus far from both clients and clinicians will be discussed.

David is an alcohol and other drug counsellor working at ISIS Primary Care in St Albans who wants to increase the utilisation of addiction neuroscience in AOD counselling.

Robyn is an addiction neuroscientist working at Florey Neuroscience Institutes to help identify new therapeutic targets for addiction treatment. She is also passionate about communicating the neuroscience of addiction to the broader community.

Hosted by Eastern Health’s Turning Point Alcohol & Drug Centre, the Talking Point seminar series provides an insight into alcohol and other drug issues by people from a range of backgrounds.

Drugs, Alcohol and your Brain will be presented at Turning Point, 54-62 Getrude Street Fitzroy on Wednesday, April 27 at 1pm – 2pm. Bookings are essential. Details: 8413 8413
