Alcohol Policy

The Centre for Alcohol Policy Research conducts and publishes alcohol related policy research in Australia.

The Centre is a joint undertaking of the Department of Human Services (Victoria), the University of Melbourne and the Foundation for Alcohol Research and Education.

Alcohol’s harm to others:

With funding from FARE, the Centre has completed a pathbreaking book on the adverse effects of drinking on other Australians. Results from the study are included in the World Health Organization’s  Global Status Report on Alcohol and Health, 2011, and WHO is using the study as a model for such studies globally. The report is available here.

The technical report on the national population for the study is here. Access Economics has published a critique of this study. The response by the Centre to that critique is here.
