Alcohol and Other Drugs Assessment and Training Opportunities for AOD Clinicians in ACT

Background

ACT Health is ensuring the development and maintenance of a competent and professional Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) workforce by funding AOD training for specialist AOD workers currently employed within the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) AOD service sector. Turning Point Alcohol and Drug Centre (Turning Point) are commissioned by ACT Health to provide Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) specialisation units of competency training and assessment opportunities to the ACT AOD workforce. The delivery of the training is in consultation with the ACT consultative committee that includes members from ACT Health and ACT Health funded AOD services.

Turning Point is a statewide AOD service and an AOD Industry RTO and has demonstrated experience in treatment and support, research and development as well as education and training on a local, Statewide, National and International level. Turning Point Alcohol and Drug Centre staff conducting the AOD competencies have both clinical and training experience and meet the training and assessment requirements as outlined in the Australian Quality Training Framework (2005).

What are the assessment and training opportunities?

The AOD assessment and training program that will be delivered by Turning Point is as follows:

Recognition of Current Competency
RCC process recognises the skills, knowledge and experience held by AOD workers through a standardised, work-based assessment process

Recognition of current competency (RCC) in the full CHC41702 Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs Work – assessment pathway

RCC in the four core AOD units of competency – assessment pathway

Face-to-face and on-line training

Face-to-face training in the four core AOD units of competency – training and assessment pathway

On-line training in the four core AOD units of competency – training and assessment pathway


The four AOD units of competency are:

CHCAOD2C Orientation to the Alcohol and Other Drugs Sector

CHCAOD6B Work with clients who are Intoxicated

CHCAOD8C Assess the needs of clients who have alcohol and/or other drugs issues

CHCAOD10A Work with clients who have alcohol and/or other drugs issues

Please note: First Aid and CPR are not offered as part of this program
