Fully
Funded Post Graduate Short Course Subjects for AOD Workers
in DHS AOD agencies in Victoria
Background
The Department of Human Services have contracted Turning Point and NEXUS Dual Diagnosis Service to develop and deliver a number of postgraduate subjects specifically for senior workers in the AOD sector. This project has been commissioned to support the DHS Minimum Qualification Strategy as identified in its Workforce Development Strategy.
Project Aims
The aim of the project is to provide an opportunity for senior clinicians within the Victorian AOD sector to gain access to accredited training at a postgraduate level. Two streams have been funded, a Mental Health stream and an Advanced Counselling stream. Each stream offers two 15-credit point subjects at a postgraduate level. Those who successfully complete the subjects will be able to transfer the credits for this subject to a postgraduate degree at Turning Point or another tertiary institution. Turning Point’s current Graduate Certificate requires 60 credit points.
Target Group
Theses courses are aimed at senior workers in the DHS funded Victorian AOD sector. Specific criteria for each of the two streams are detailed below.
Mental Health Stream
- Applicants must hold a relevant undergraduate degree*
- Applicants must currently work as an AOD worker for a DHS funded AOD agency
- Applicants must have worked in the AOD sector for at least 2 years.
- Applicants must have their organisation support to complete the courses
Advanced Counselling Stream
- Applicants must hold a relevant undergraduate degree*
- Applicants must currently work as an AOD Counsellor for a DHS funded AOD agency
- Applicants must have worked in the AOD sector for at least 3 years.
- Applicants must have their organisation support to complete the courses
(* Special entry circumstances may be available to a small number of students who do not meet this criterion)
A panel incorporating representatives for DHS, NEXUS Dual Diagnosis service, and Turning Points’ Graduate Development Committee will review all expressions of interest. Consideration to providing equal access opportunities to AOD workers across all DHS regions will be a core feature of panel decision-making. The decision of the panel will be final. You may apply for both streams but will only be accepted on to one stream.
Delivery Schedule & Registration
Both streams commence with an introductory subject that is a prerequisite for attendance on the second subject within that stream. You must be able to commit to completing both subjects within the stream.
The delivery schedule and registration process for both streams in 2007 is available here.
The flyer for the Advanced Counselling subjects available in 2008 can be accessed here.
