Trustworthy, rigorous research and evaluation are cornerstones of sound service planning and systems development. The work of the Health Services Research and Evaluation Program aims to inform better health service delivery related to alcohol and other drugs.
You will have responsibility for independently managing multiple projects in the area of health services research. This important work focuses on how and whether health systems work, particularly in relation to people with risky or problematic substance use problems. Our work impacts policy and practice, with the goal of aligning services and systems with the evidence on effectiveness in treatment and service delivery.
You will be required to undertake high level complex research tasks including but not limited to: project design, management, and data analysis report writing, the preparation of funding applications and dissemination of findings to stakeholders and academic audiences. You will be encouraged to develop a particular area of expertise and build your profile and career pathway via competitive fund rounds and peer review publications. There is also an opportunity for you to be involved in graduate teaching programs on substance use.
High calibre candidates will possess a Masters or equivalent in a relevant field as well as relevant research experience. High level qualitative or qualitative research skills are required as are solid skills in the management and timely completion of complex research projects and working in a team environment. Experience in the translation of research to practice or policy and/or a PhD in public health social sciences is highly desirable.

Senior Mental Health Nurse, Clinical Services
Ongoing, Full-time Position, $69,191 per annum
Turning Point Alcohol and Drug Centre has an exciting and unique opportunity for a Senior Mental Health Nurse who is passionate about making a difference, and wants to work for a premier provider of alcohol and drug and mental health services in a dedicated and supportive team environment. Turning Point works collaboratively to improve alcohol and other drug policy and practice with the aim of maximising the health and wellbeing of people and communities living with and affected by alcohol and other drug-related harms.
Clinical Services consists of a multidisciplinary team comprising AOD clinicians doctors, nurses, pharmacists, psychologists, counselling staff, community development workers and administration staff.
This senior clinical role significantly contributes to the development and delivery of psychosocial/allied health clinical services at Turning Point. You will work alongside medical services, providing quality psychosocial interventions to clients with AOD and/or mental health issues. You will also be responsible for the line management of the nursing team, providing clinical supervision, training and mentoring and may manage various projects.
Our ideal candidate has:
- Division 1/ Division 3 Registration with the Nurses Board of Victoria
- Clinical Supervision expertise
- Extensive relevant clinical experience in AOD and/or Mental Health (at least 5 years would normally be expected to meet this requirement)
- Knowledge and experience in the implementation of a broad range of psychosocial interventions, with an emphasis on evidenced based practice
- Superior communication and interpersonal skills to communicate with clients, their families, medical colleagues and members of the multidisciplinary team
- A demonstrated ability to provide leadership in a multidisciplinary team setting

Vocationally registered general practitioner (VR GP)
Clinical Services
Turning Point strives to promote and maximise the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities living with and affected by alcohol and other drug-related harms.
We are currently looking for a General Practitioner (VR GP preferred) with experience in AOD and/or Mental Health to work within our multi-disciplinary Clinical Services program at Turning Point, a community based, specialist alcohol and drug treatment service.
Duties include assessment and management of problems associated with substance dependence and key related comorbidities, including opioid substitution pharmacotherapy prescribing. The position provides opportunities for participation in research and training, and all clinicians work within a harm minimisation framework.
The successful candidate will be suitably qualified and registered with the Medical Practitioners Board of Victoria. Experience servicing people who have complex needs and multiple presentations (alcohol and other drug issues, mental health and acquired brain impairment) would be highly regarded. They will also be familiar with contemporary alcohol and drug issues and interventions and have sensitivity to the needs of clients and their families.
The position requires an accreditation, or willingness to become accredited, to prescribe opioid substitution pharmacotherapies.
