The Turning Point review
The Turning Point Board is pleased to release the findings of a major review that was commissioned jointly by the Turning Point Board and the Department of Human Services in 2007.
The consultants who undertook the review, Robert Griew and associates consulted extensively with key stakeholders in Victoria and nationally. The reviewers described Turning Point’s ongoing policy and clinical leadership roles as ‘essential’ They also recommended that the Board and DHS endorse a model of Turning Point as a ‘specialist/tertiary referral AOD clinical service with integrated research and training arms.’ In further recommendations the reviewers described the urgency of rebuilding the clinical services, recruiting senior staff and putting in place governance arrangements that will ensure Turning Point’s ongoing viability.
In a press release (8th May 2008) the Minister for Mental Health, Lisa Neville welcomed the Turning Point review and committed the Government to working closely with the Board over coming months. Over this period the Government will consider all 22 of the review’s findings. Ms Neville said that ‘It is vital the Centre has the capacity to respond flexibly to the changing needs of the Victorian Community.’
The Acting Chairperson of the Board Ray Judd has welcomed the review’s findings and indicated that Turning Point will work closely with the Government and our stakeholders to ensure that the organisation continues to provide AOD clinical and policy leadership in Victoria.
