Access Point stimulant treatment centres/
Access Point is a government funded not-for-profit health service for people who use stimulant type drugs such as speed, ice and coke.
Why is treatment so important?
The rate of stimulant use in Australia is among the highest in the world, yet relatively few people access treatment. Research has shown that even brief treatment is effective.
The Access Point treatment centres are unique in Melbourne in that they offer treatment that is specifically tailored for stimulant users.
What do the Access Point centres offer?
The main purpose of the Access Point centres is to increase access to information, education and treatment for stimulant users. The centres include:
- Information about amphetamines and other drugs
- Education and harm reduction advice
- Assessment
- Withdrawal support
- Individual counselling
- Medical treatment for dependence
- Mental health intervention
- Group support
- Referral to other health services

What should you expect from treatment?
When you call or visit an Access Point treatment centre, our specialist nurse will ask you a number of questions to determine how we can best assist you. The type of treatment you receive at Access Point may include referral to our:
- Addiction Medicine Specialist for medical treatment
- Psychiatrist for mental health treatment
- Counsellor/Psychologist for individual counselling
- SMART recovery group
External referral options will also be dicusssed with you if required.
When you come in for your first session you will be asked more in-depth questions about your background and your current issues.
Our specialist team will coordinate your care and provide support from your first contact with our centres, until your treatment is completed. You will be fully involved in planning your treatment.
