This clinically-focused webinar will explore the research evidence for using different models of treatment for women in substance use disorder presentations.

Do women with substance use disorders present the same way as men? Are there particular risk factors or vulnerabilities that clinicians need to consider? And do the treatments we offer work as effectively (and as safely) for women as they do for men?

This clinically-focused webinar will explore the research evidence for differences between men and women in substance use disorder presentations, and the rationale for different models of treatment. There will be a specific focus on trauma in recovery, and understanding how and why women may need adapted models of care.

Dr Shalini Arunogiri is an addiction psychiatrist and Clinical Lead (Statewide Services) at Turning Point, Eastern Health. She is Chair of the Bi-national Faculty of Addiction Psychiatry at the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP), and Senior Lecturer at Monash University. Her research background includes a PhD on risk markers for methamphetamine psychosis and investigating treatment models and targets for women in recovery from addictive disorders.
