New data to inform effective approaches to reducing AOD harms

1 Dec 2025

A range of new data has just been released on the AODstats website, which provides information on the harms that Victorians are experiencing in relation to alcohol, pharmaceutical drug use and illicit drug use.

New data to inform effective approaches to reducing AOD harms

The vital statistical and epidemiological resources on the AODstats website enable health professionals, policy planners and service providers to identify the locations, circumstances and groups of people who are experiencing harm from alcohol and other drugs (AOD), so that they can work together to develop the most effective responses.

Updated data sets analysed by our hardworking staff in the National Addiction and Mental Health Surveillance Unit include AOD-related deaths for 2013–22 calendar years using a new updated methodology, serious road injuries for the 2023-24 financial year and liquor licences for the 2024 calendar year.

Bulletin 11 is also available and highlights a new data set – the number of presentations within Victorian Hospital Emergency Departments in the financial years between 2013-14 and 2022-23.

The most recent financial year, 2022-23, saw an increase in emergency department presentations for alcohol as well as for illicit and pharmaceutical drugs.
