National Addiction and Mental Health Surveillance Unit (NAMHSU)

The NAMHSU team aims to reduce the impact of addiction, self-harm and mental ill health through the provision of surveillance data that is used to inform policy and interventions. We work to provide timely, accurate and complete data in compliance with World Health Organisation standards for surveillance data. By partnering with government and non-government organisations our data provides a globally unique data source that can be used to make a difference in the lives of those affected by addiction, self-harm and mental health.

Our team has diverse areas of content expertise with leading researchers in the fields of population health, epidemiology, alcohol and other drug use, mental health, family violence, injury prevention and sleep, and we strive to produce research that breaks down traditional barriers across these fields. Our funders include the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, the Commonwealth Department of Health and the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services as well as project funders including Beyond Blue, Movember, Google, and the Australian Institute of Criminology.
