Advancing inclusive practice in addiction services
Master of Addictive Behaviours graduate Nic Robinson-Griffith has published his award-winning thesis on transgender and gender diverse inclusion in AOD residential treatment.
Congratulations to Nic Robinson-Griffith on his first publication as lead author in the prestigious International Journal of Transgender Health!
Nic is a social worker with extensive experience in the Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) sector, having worked as a manager, coordinator, counsellor, and case manager.
After completing his Master of Addictive Behaviours at Monash University, Nic adapted his thesis into a research article that was published this year:
“Congratulations to Nic for this outstanding achievement. His work is a powerful example of clinical practice driving research that will now feed back into practice,” said Dr Annette Peart, one of Nic’s supervisors, alongside Associate Professor Kirsten Schliephake (SFHEA) and Dr Rowan Ogeil.
Not only did Nic’s thesis receive the highest mark ever awarded (to that date) for a thesis in the Master of Addictive Behaviours, but it also won the Semester 2, 2023 Minor Thesis award!
“The journey was incredibly enriching, allowing me to deepen my understanding of addiction and inclusive interventions,” Nic said.
He also presented his findings at the 2024 European Conference on Addictive Behaviours and Dependencies (‘Lisbon Addictions’) and at the 2025 VAADA conference.
These career-defining opportunities are available for anyone undertaking the final-year research pathway in the Master of Addictive Behaviours at Monash University and Turning Point, which can also lead to entry into a PhD in addiction studies.
