Talking Point: Treating trauma & addiction: from innovation to implementation, presented by Associate Professor Shalini Arunogiri on 18th October 2023

Overview

Exposure to trauma, and symptoms of PTSD, are really common in people seeking AOD treatment. Integrated trauma-focused psychotherapies that treat both PTSD and substance use are safe and effective, but there is a gap between research evidence and translation to treatment settings.

In this webinar, A/Prof Shalini Arunogiri will share experiences of how the team at Turning Point implemented a trauma-focused therapy (COPE) with support from North-western Melbourne PHN.

This will include reflections on how clinicians navigated the learning curve, how we worked with referrers and the community to better understand how to meet the needs of clients and services, and our hopes and wishes for future scaling and implementation, so people across the state can access similar care.
