Turning Point delivers public health projects on behalf of state and federal governments in the areas of alcohol, drug and gambling counselling and mental health for nurses and midwives and tertiary education students.

The Drug and Alcohol Clinical Advisory Service

The Drug and Alcohol Clinical Advisory Service (DACAS) is a specialist telephone consultancy service that assists health and welfare professionals throughout Victoria to respond effectively to individuals with alcohol or other drug use problems.

All calls are answered by experienced clinicians from Turning Point. Calls that require specialist medical advice are referred to consultants who are addiction medicine specialists.

DACAS is operated by Turning Point with funding from the Victorian Department of Health.

Gambling Help Online

Gambling Help Online complements and increases the range of services available in responding to problem gambling issues.

It provides Australians with a new opportunity to access counselling and information services when they are unable or reluctant to access face-to-face services provided in each jurisdiction.

Gambling Help Online is delivered by Turning Point and funded as part of an agreement between all state and territory governments and the Australian Government.

Counselling Online

Counselling Online has delivered assistance to Australian residents concerned about alcohol and other drugs since 2006. The primary service is delivered online through text-based counselling for people concerned about their own drinking or drug use.

Counselling Online services are free and available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is also available to people concerned about a family member, relative or friend.

It is operated by Turning Point and funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health.

Nurse & Midwife Support

Nurse & Midwife Support was established in 2017 and is the first national telephone and online service to offer health support to nurses and midwives in Australia. It is free, confidential and available 24/7.

Nurses and midwives who call the telephone service have access to an experienced team who can assist with a wide range of health and wellbeing related issues that may be affecting their practice. The service also provides support to nursing and midwifery students, educators, employers and concerned family members.

Nurse & Midwife Support is operated by Turning Point and is a Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) initiative, but it is independent of the NMBA and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

DirectLine was established in 1986 to provide a 24-hour telephone counselling, information and referral service for anyone in Victoria wishing to discuss an alcohol or drug-related issue.

DirectLine is a key component of Victoria’s state-wide alcohol and drug network. It complements the network of treatment and support services in the community through the provision of multiple, immediate responses to people affected by alcohol and drug issues.
