Major Milestones
Joining Eastern Health and Monash University
In 2009, Turning Point formally amalgamated with Eastern Health, a crucial step in growing our role as Victoria’s centre of excellence in addiction treatment, research, and training. Being embedded within one of the state’s largest health networks ensures our services are fully integrated with the broader public health system, allowing us to reach more people and deliver care where it’s most needed.
Alongside our research partnership with Monash University, this drives innovation, ensuring that the latest evidence shapes clinical practice and that frontline experience informs new discoveries. This unique position, sitting at the intersection of evidence and frontline practice, magnifies our impact, enabling us to transform systems, influence policy, and improve lives.
Statewide Neuropsychology Services
Since 2011, Turning Point’s Statewide Neuropsychology Service has provided timely assessment and support for people experiencing both cognitive impairment and addiction. The team offers specialist care planning and formulation, ensuring complex needs are addressed holistically.
As the only service of its kind in Victoria, it fills a critical gap within the AOD sector. To date, the team has received over 2,500 referrals, conducted more than 2,000 comprehensive consults, and delivered over 600 neuropsychological assessments, improving care pathways and outcomes for some of the state’s most vulnerable clients.
ECADS Consortium
Since 2014, Turning Point has led the Inner East & Eastern Alcohol and Drug Services (ECADS) consortium, bringing together treatment providers across Melbourne’s inner and outer east. By streamlining access and strengthening collaboration, ECADS delivers more consistent, responsive, and client-centred care, helping individuals, families, and communities receive the support they need close to home.
Comprehensive Inpatient Withdrawal Support
As part of one of Victoria’s largest public hospitals, the 1East Ward at Box Hill Hospital is a unique statewide 8-bed unit providing specialist addiction medicine care for people with complex physical health needs. Complementing this, our Wellington House residential program offers community-based detoxification and stabilisation for up to 28 days, supporting recovery in a safe and structured environment.
Hospital Consultation Liaison
Our Consultation Liaison team supports clinical staff in identifying and managing alcohol and drug issues across emergency departments and inpatient wards at Box Hill, Maroondah, and Angliss hospitals. Their expertise ensures best practice is embedded across the Eastern Health network, enabling timely brief interventions, withdrawal support and seamless referrals to ongoing care.
Aboriginal Metropolitan Ice Partnership
Launched in 2016 as a 12-month pilot, the AMIP program has now grown into an ongoing service. The program has increased awareness in Aboriginal communities about the impacts of drug use and the benefits of treatment, while offering a culturally safe and supportive space for community members across the Eastern region.

IMPACT STORY
Aboriginal Metropolitan Ice Partnership (AMIP)
It began as a pilot program and 9 years on, it’s still running. By providing a culturally safe environment for all of our patients and working closely with Aboriginal organisations, this program has become indispensable.
Turning Point team leader for AMIP
Launched in 2016 as a 12‑month pilot, AMIP has since become an indispensable part of Victoria’s care network, now entering its ninth year. Delivered in partnership with Aboriginal organisations, including the Victorian Aboriginal Child and Community Agency (VACCA) and the Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (VACCHO), this initiative bridges service gaps by strengthening partnerships and referral pathways between Aboriginal and mainstream AOD services. It provides assertive outreach, tailored support, clinical services, and holistic wraparound care to Aboriginal people affected by methamphetamine (ice) and other alcohol and drug issues.
AMIP enhances sector capacity by building the capability of non‑Aboriginal AOD services to deliver culturally responsive care, all while increasing awareness within Aboriginal communities about drug harms and the benefits of treatment . The service extends across the Eastern Health network, drawing on clinical staff and Aboriginal hospital liaison officers to support outreach, case coordination, and engagement at sites including Carrington Road and Wellington House. Its holistic model enables streamlined access to education, counselling, recovery coordination, and more intensive withdrawal services when needed.
Through assertive engagement and culturally informed, wrap-around care, AMIP not only improves individual and family well-being but also strengthens service systems, ensuring more effective, respectful, and accessible AOD responses across communities.
