
Shirley Gill
Lecturer, Graduate Programs of Addictive Behaviours, Turning Point and Monash University
Overview
Shirley has 30 years working in the addictions field across education and counselling roles. She has extensive experience as an educator and was a contributor to the initial development of the Graduate Program of Addictive Behaviours, having been teaching in the program since its inception.
Prior to working with Monash University, Shirley worked for 10 years as an educator and trainer with Turning Point’s Workforce Development team.
In her clinical and counselling roles, Shirley has worked for Turning Point and in community health services supporting people facing challenges related to alcohol and other drugs, as well as problem gambling. In recent years, she has expanded her clinical work to include clients who present with complex mental health disorders. Shirley’s current role in the Graduate Programs of Addictive Behaviours is enriched by this clinical experience as she integrates her clinical knowledge into her education practice.
Background
Shirley’s holds in qualifications in psychology and education, being a Master of Psychology (Counselling), a Graduate Diploma in Education, and a Master of Psychology (Clinical).
Research Interest
Shirley has a particular interest in developing generative AI for clinical skills teaching practice.
