Dr Lichtwark was recently promoted to Senior Lecturer in recognition of the wide-reaching impact of his career.

Congratulations to Dr Siegfried Lichtwark for his promotion to Senior Lecturer (Education-Focused). 

Dr Lichtwark is a lecturer at Monash University, working for Turning Point’s graduate programs in Addictive Behaviours. He holds a PhD in cognitive psychology, with interest areas in student-focused education and the validation of assessment tools.

“This is the first time in my 10-year academic career that I got a promotion,” Dr Lichtwark says.

“I am pretty chuffed about the recognition,” he adds. “I am proud of my achievements and want to thank all those around me who have made this possible through their ongoing support and encouragement.”

Wide-reaching impact  

Dr Lichtwark is also a subject matter expert in the prevention of and response to sexual assault and sexual harassment in the Australian higher education sector and has assisted over 60 Australian higher education Institutions raise their capacity to prevent and respond to sexual assault and sexual harassment.

He was instrumental in shaping the response of the Australian higher education sector to sexual assault and harassment, and the comprehensive resources he developed are highly regarded and widely consulted by the sector.

“There is still a lot of work to be done, but I am glad I had the opportunity to contribute to this important field,” Dr Lichtwark says. “If we managed to prevent even one sexual assault, I consider my work a success.”

Shaping the future of higher education

As well as receiving the promotion to senior lecturer, Dr Lichtwark attained the Advance HE Senior Fellowship through Monash University’s Education Excellence Program this year.

The Senior Fellowship recognises Dr Lichtwark’s significant contribution to teaching and learning, and positions him among professionals who are shaping the future of higher education.

“Attaining the Senior Fellowship was a complex process of reflecting on my teaching practice to enable me to put thoughts and beliefs into concrete words, link them to education theories, and provide evidence for my practice and its impact,” Dr Lichtwark explains.

“I found the process challenging but beneficial for my teaching practice and for the application for the promotion to senior lecturer,” he adds.
