Welcome to PhD candidate, Autumn Beau!
Ms Beau’s PhD will focus on developing a National Alcohol Risk Index to help policymakers assess community risks and inform alcohol policies.
Welcome to the latest PhD candidate joining our National Addiction and Mental Health Surveillance Unit, Autumn Beau!
Ms Beau completed her Bachelor of Science at Monash University, with an Honours year at Monash’s Be Active Sleep Eat (BASE) facility in 2023.
“Despite my background in sleep sciences, I have always been passionate about addiction studies, particularly population-based preventive approaches that directly impact policy,” Ms Beau says.
Under the supervision of Dr Rowan Ogeil and Dr Bosco Rowland, Ms Beau’s PhD aims to reduce alcohol-related harms in Australia by developing a National Alcohol Risk Index to help policymakers assess community risks and inform alcohol policies.
Key objectives include identifying the diverse causes of alcohol-related harms and developing strategies to prevent these problems across the Australian population.
“Our approach seeks to shift the environment and context in which alcohol consumption occurs, ultimately benefiting the entire population and reducing harm disparities,” Ms Beau explains.
“I am particularly interested in the acute harms associated with alcohol, such as vehicular accidents, preventable injury, and violence,” she adds.
After completing her undergraduate and honours studies at Monash University, Ms Beau is excited to be undertaking a PhD with the university.
“Monash University has not only provided me with an education, but also scholarships and internships that have made me a better student and researcher,” she says.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with such talented and inspiring researchers, and to work and study with partnered industries.”
Welcome, Autumn Beau!
